Cultivation difficulty: moderate to advanced. This is the one seed in our Barney's Farm range that asks something of the grower. It is resilient and adaptable, and it suits warmer climates, but it needs more attention than the beginner-friendly indicas elsewhere in the range.

Indoors, it does best in hydroponics or organic super soil, in warm, well-ventilated spaces. Flowering takes 60 to 70 days and yields reach 550 g/m².

Outdoors, it wants Mediterranean or tropical conditions, and harvest falls between late October and early November.

Grower tips:

• It can be sensitive to temperature fluctuations. This matters most in the final weeks, since the harvest runs into November when Maltese temperatures start to swing.
• Warm, well-ventilated indoor spaces suit it best, which is worth planning for before the tent is set up.
• The late harvest is the trade-off for the long flower. Plan the outdoor season around late October rather than early autumn.

Storage: for long-term storage, keep the seeds in a cool, dark, airtight container in the refrigerator. Not the freezer.

Germination: the paper towel method is a proven technique.

• Place the seeds between two moist paper towels.
• Keep them in a warm, dark environment.
• Check daily, and transfer to soil once the taproot emerges.
