Apple Strudel Auto develops short internodal spacing and relatively short side branches, which is what gives it a compact appearance despite reaching 120 cm. It produces frosty, rock-hard buds in light green, taking on purplish hues towards the end of flowering. As the plant nears the end of its cycle the lush green leaves turn yellow, orange and red, which is a useful visual marker of how far along it is.

Grower tips

• Sea of Green suits it. The compact structure and short side branches make SOG an effective way to optimise yield in a limited space.
• It handles high stress training if you want to push it further, though it does not need it.
• Manage airflow, and defoliate gently. Strategic placement or a robust oscillating fan keeps air moving, and periodic gentle defoliation improves both airflow and light penetration to the lower growth, which reduces the risk of mould.
• Watch the leaves for ripeness. The colour change from green to yellow, orange and red tracks the end of the cycle.

Storage: for long-term storage, keep the seeds in a cool, dark, airtight container in the refrigerator. Not the freezer.

Germination: the paper towel method is a proven technique.

1. Place the seeds between two moist paper towels.
2. Keep them in a warm, dark environment.
3. Check daily, and transfer to soil once the taproot emerges.
